High performance sport in Canada is believed to enhance our nation's identity, unity and pride. Increasing these aspects does not happen freely, athletes and the staff around them must be adequately funded to help Canada train and prepare for high performance sports. The most respected high-performance sports venue in today's society is the Olympic and Paralympic Games. This document is intended to recognize the contribution of Own the Podium as one of Canada's largest sports organizations for high-performance sport. Owning the podium helps fund high-performance Canadian athletes for the Olympics and Paralympics. The purpose of this article is to inform the reader how Own the Podium is providing assistance in many key areas of the Canadian sports system.
