Lingnan UniversityImpacts and interactions in the history of Vietnam since the 13th centurySection 12XIE Zihan4172083CCC8004: World history and civilization4/28/2014The world after the Mongol conquest was shaped and changed significantly by various important historical events. These events have had a huge impact on the politics, economy and society of nations. Nations have been involved in the rapid process of global modernization. The country I researched is Vietnam. In this essay I will discuss the impact that important events that occurred since the 13th century have had on the history of Vietnam and the interactions between Vietnam and other parts of the world. From the 13th to the 20th century, Vietnam went through the Trần Dynasty and the Hồ Dynasty. , Chinese domination, the subsequent Lê dynasty, the Tây Sơn dynasty, the Nguyễn dynasty, the French “New Imperialism” and finally the Republic. The basic nature of Vietnamese society did not change much in the period between independence from China in the 10th century and French colonization in the 19th century. The king had the highest authority in society. China's absolute monarchy, agricultural economy, and Confucian philosophy were the foundation of Vietnamese society. The Mongol conquest influenced the history of Vietnam. The Mongols (Chinese Yuan dynasty) invaded Vietnam in 1257. There were three invasions in total from 1257 to 1288. Due to the hot climate, disease, and resistance of the Vietnamese, the Mongols were defeated. In general, the Mongols did not directly change the politics of Vietnam. However, the devastation of the Mongol invasion, military campaigns, and royal incompetence ultimately led to an economic crisis that hastened the end of the Tran dynasty (1400). Culturally, the Vietnamese see the Anti-Mongol War as a very honorable part of their history. In today's world, Vietnam continues to impact and be influenced by the world.Notes1. Joseph Buttinger.
