I have worked with children and learned that I can really deal with them. I was in a position of authority and they really listened to me, so I learned that I could manage them in my future career too. I think this could help me professionally, because I want to be a dentist and I should learn how to behave with children. Although a child riding a slide and a child going to the dentist would be two completely different situations, I believe I can relate what I learned from handling children during this event into any future dental consultations. I personally learned that I can have a lot of patience if I was in a situation where it was needed. Academically I saw a connection between my volunteer site and my course assignments. I saw this seven year old boy who possessed the most polite manners I have ever witnessed. He was thoughtful and patient as he tried to convince his little sister to slide down the slide with him. A woman, however, showed completely contrasting ways, she went up the slide with a drink and left it up the stairs where drinking was not allowed. When I asked her to take it downstairs with her, she said no. I think this shows how the environment definitely has an effect on people, but ultimately both the child and the women had a choice. The boy could have been raised by excellent parents, but he could choose to treat his sister well. While the woman may have grown up without anyone teaching her manners, she had the choice to take the soda down with her when I asked her nicely
