The importance of an OH&S management system in a construction organization The Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Act requires employers to job to take responsibility for safeguarding the health and safety of its employees when they are at work. In the recent past, numerous employees in the construction sector have died due to workplace accidents. Aside from the pain experienced by the workers and the emotional turmoil of their families, a lot of money has been spent on their compensation. Therefore, the development of OSH has really helped employers to reduce these costs and ensure that they work in a safe environment (Coble, Haupt & Hinze 2000, p. 121). Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Occupational Health and Safety Management (OHS) in this context can be defined as the procedural planning, organization and control of a company's processes in order to maintain safety and health of workers. When planning OSH, factors such as adequate ventilation, the use of protective equipment such as helmets and gloves, reduced noise levels and periodic rest of workers should be considered. The government has demonstrated its obligation to reform the construction industry by proposing legislative initiatives addressing workplace ethics, workplace accident management, and environmental conservation (Hughes & Ferrett 2008, p. 213). OHS Training in the Construction Industry This involves the dissemination of instructions from experienced trainers with the aim of inculcating the required skills and abilities, which is done before a worker can undertake a particular task. An example of this instruction is incident analysis training which could be done through group or individual displays and demonstrations.
