In the pageant competition, Olive is in the background along with the other contestants. At first she feels shy because all the other contestants look elegant with their tanned bodies, outrageous clothes, and overused makeup. One of the contestants was also walking the catwalk as if he had some sex appeal by sticking his tongue out. Olive feels like a boring girl and still worries about her appearance when on stage she feels like she doesn't dress well enough and when she looks in the mirror she feels fat. Although before her performance her father and brother didn't want Olive to perform because it would embarrass her and the audience would turn on her. Her brother Dwayne said "She's not a beauty queen." Yet her mother protests, “Olive is who she is, she works so hard she puts everything into this, we can't take that away from her.” Olive continues and performs by performing a dance routine that her grandfather shows her. While she was doing her performance, her parents were speechless and shocked that her dance routine was vulgar when she tore her button up blouse, so similar to the movie called Striptease with Demi Moore. Also people were booing and a woman said "You suck". Olive dances anyway because one of the main judges wants her off the stage. Her father protects her by dancing with her on stage, the family also joins her on stage and dances too. But is this a hypocritical film? Yes why
