The importance of ethics and values in corporate sustainability is undeniable. Ethics have been defined as “Moral principles that govern or influence a person's behavior” - Hornby. Ethics are different from business ethics, however, business ethics are defined as “written or unwritten codes of principles or values that govern decisions and actions within an organization.” Therefore we can see that ethics, moral standards and behavior of consumers, employees, entrepreneurs or management teams are not about business ethics. Business ethics deals with the ethical behavior and decisions of the entire organization as a whole. This means that the decision to behave or act ethically is moral. The decision making process that takes place within a company is made by individuals or groups who must make the decision whether or not to act ethically, this may mean avoiding a decision that could produce the greatest profit for the organization because it is not ethical and does not respect the values of the organization or company. When examining business ethics it is important to distinguish between types of ethics. The main types of ethics are descriptive ethics, normative ethics, and analytical ethics. Descriptive ethics is described as how people behave relative to the moral standards they claim to follow. Normative ethics is described as the creation or evaluation of moral standards, it is an attempt to find out what people should do or whether their moral behavior is reasonable. Analytical ethics is described as the study of assumptions that people make within normative ethics. Sustainability is a “sustainable and balanced approach to economic activity, environmental responsibility and social benefit” – Tata Steel. Sustainability means respecting the... limits of the card... and allowing everyone in the company to be involved. It also means that leaders work alongside employees, creating more guidance and support for the employee. Much has been said about how important leadership is and some categories of leadership have been explained, but it is also important to understand what factors influence a leader. By knowing what influences a leader and what characteristics leaders possess, you can see how they influence the success of a business and how important their leadership is to the success of any business organization. There are eight main traits that an effective leader must possess. Intelligence, knowledge and competence, maturity, high energy, self-confidence, integrity and honesty, stress tolerance and dominance. These characteristics allow for a well-rounded leader who can manage people and deal with almost any situation.
