Cowhey uses a quote from the Dalai Lama that perfectly explains the difference between wanting a classroom with multicultural education and actually having one. “It's not enough to be compassionate. You have to act." This book showed me that it takes more than just understanding what multicultural education looks like, but also how persistent you have to be to get this kind of education. Cowhey's book is important to educators and the general public because it can inspire people from all walks of life to teach children how to be compassionate, empathetic, activists, critical thinkers, and much more than is expected of them. This book is relevant to my teaching practice because it made me realize how much more important teaching is. Teaching is more than just creating and implementing lessons, but it's so much more
