Recent healthcare seekers, such as governments, insurance companies and individuals, face a contemporary global crisis by paying exorbitant costs for healthcare services. This prohibitive cost has impacted recent debates between supporters of the importance of the treatment and deniers due to the high cost. In light of these clashes between supporters and deniers, a gesture appears from behind the scenes that attempts to offer a phenomenon. This phenomenon argues that physical therapy could provide a higher quality and less expensive alternative treatment protocol. Every new phenomenon has its supporters and its deniers. Evidence-based practice should be the judge's gavel. This article will analyze the effectiveness of the physical therapy approach using therapeutic exercise, electrical stimulation, and relaxation modalities and will analyze five pharmaceutical approaches comparing and contrasting both approaches for treating depression and anxiety. Therapeutic exercise has noteworthy benefits particularly in depression and anxiety. The strong point that no one can deny is the importance of exercise for the human body in general. Therapeutic exercise will burn fat, improve the musculoskeletal, cardiopulmonary and nervous systems. Furthermore, research conducted by Farrell et al. (1982 cited in Bender, et al. 2007: 373) found that half an hour of treadmill running exercise increased b-endorphin levels two to five times double. This significant increase will stimulate the receptors in the brain. This will reduce the feeling of pain, accompanied by a positive outlook on life that will treat depression and anxiety. Meanwhile, patients may prefer to take medical tablets instead of doing physical activity due to two main problems... middle of paper... Some people like to expose themselves to the sun and get a pleasant feeling. It could be due to the dilation of blood vessels which increases blood flow which will lead to increased b-endorphin. Relaxing modalities may require further investigation. There are currently seven main pharmaceutical approaches for treating depression and anxiety, but the effectiveness of these drugs is questionable. Ciraulo (2009: 33) classified these pharmaceutical approaches for the treatment of depression and anxiety into terms frequently used in clinical situations. Ciraulo (2009: 33) listed these approaches as “selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), tricyclic antidepressants (TCAs), cyclic antidepressants, mixed-acting agents, selective norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs), monoamine oxidase inhibitors ( MAOI) and alternative drugs". antidepressants (non-traditional)..”
