This is my first semester of college here at Leech Lake Tribal College; and among the many required foundational courses I have, one of them was Pathways to Success. I found that I was surprised by all the topics we covered and how in-depth they turned out to be. I feel that when I reflect on the course, I really learned a good amount of useful things that I can build on and use in the future as well. One of the very useful things I learned was responsible and practical knowledge of budgeting and time management. I've learned that it's best to track your needs and wants in a budget to get the most out of it. Things like personal needs must take precedence over recreational and entertainment needs; like buying music and movies online or buying that new shade of lipstick. As adults we all have to learn that food and keeping the water heater working and safe are obviously more important. Why; in the long term, when we all hope to do well in our careers or have better jobs with the help of our education; we can spend our money wisely and live a more comfortable and contented life. Another thing that goes hand in hand with success is good time management. I've found that I myself am terrible at time management and am a textbook procrastinator. I've learned that there are simple ways we can all manage our time better; and that, once you get comfortable with the routine of having a schedule, you actually get more productive hours in your day. It also allows you to feel more in control of your daily life; taking away some of the stress of deadlines and being able to meet them because you gave yourself the time to meet them. Among other things I learned, I feel… middle of paper… the differences as well as the subtle differences with his teachings in relation to Anishinaabe values were really interesting. I plan to read more of Velma Wallis's works in the future and get more accustomed to Native American literature in general. In conclusion, when I look back on this course I feel like I really learned a lot and I'm happy I had the chance to do it. take it. Even if I didn't get an A and had attendance issues, I would do it all over again. I wish I could have taken all the classes and done better overall. I will be taking morning and afternoon classes for the spring semester to avoid transportation issues in the future. I plan to force myself to apply myself more and work harder to succeed academically. Ultimately I know I can do better and the only real thing that can stand in my way to success is myself.
