What we consider right or wrong in our opinion will ethically determine how we justify the decisions we make as teachers. “Ethical issues concern questions of right and wrong: our duties and obligations, our rights and responsibilities” (Strike, 1988). By definition in the ethics of teaching there is a lot of room for the individuality of the teacher, but decisions are also made in relation to the situation of the teaching experience. As Mr. Strike mentioned in his article, each situation should be handled differently by individual teachers. However, regardless of the different ethical reasons the teacher chooses to handle each situation the way they did, their individual ethics allow them to justify the decision both to themselves and to others. This loophole in a sense makes the definition and explanation of ethics in teaching a somewhat elusive topic to explicitly define. Finally, when explaining the ethics of teaching, more specific and concrete explanations can be found in relation to the teaching profession itself. Instead of looking exclusively at the individual teacher with vague, broad and individual ethical aspects. Teachers must be aware of the responsibility that comes with being a teacher and with a profession characterized by such a high level of ethics.
