“The Road Not Taken” and “Nothing Gold Can Stay” are just two of the many very famous poems, written by none other than Robert Frost. Robert Frost is a poet known for his poetic contributions to nature and his award-winning poems. His poetic ability and his knowledge make him an extraordinary author. His past; including school, family and the era in which he wrote influenced almost all of his poems in some way. This very famous poet contributed to the era of modernism, had a family and an interesting life story, as well as a unique poetic style. The literary era in which Robert Frost wrote was the era of modernism. This era was a time when poets and artists in general began to rebel against the "normal" way of writing poetry or performing arts. The poetic term for this is known as poetic license. In "The Rose Family," Robert Frost writes: And now the theory says, The apple is a rose, And the pear is, and so is The plum, I suppose (quotations.about.com). The style of this line, as well as the rest of the poem, represents poetic license. Furthermore, in the use of the word theory, Frost shows his abstract idea about the “theory” of beauty, which is also seen as a connotation or metaphor. This greatly contributes to the era of modernism, because it shows the unique structure of ideas and poetic ideas created during this time period. Another poem in which Frost portrays his modern era is the poem “The Oven Bird.”: There is a singer that everyone has heard aloud, a midsummer bird and a mid-wood bird that make resound the solid trunks of the trees (ketzle.com). The free verse in this poem portrays a part of the modern era.
