Effects of Cars Think for a second here, what do you use almost every day to get where you need to go? You're probably thinking about a car because almost everyone has one. Cars have become so common; nine out of ten households in the United States own some type of vehicle. Now imagine living your everyday life without it, it would be almost impossible! Cars have had a very positive impact on the world and the lives of many people. However they have also had a rather negative effect on the world and life. Cars make it very easy to get to and from where you are going. Even though cars have polluted the world and consumed a lot of natural resources to keep going, they are still a nice luxury that many can't do without. Cars are very reliable if kept in good condition and do not have to rely on public transport. For starters, the negative effects of cars are very mild and should not be taken too seriously, although it seems bad that the positives outweigh the negatives. Cars consume a good amount of natural resources such as steel, aluminium, copper, lead, zinc and rubber (The Environmental Impact of Automobiles). Due to air pollution caused by automobiles, wheat, corn, soybean, and peanut crops have lost anywhere from one point nine to $4 billion in yields (The Environmental Impact of Automobiles). The United States alone uses over 10.8 million barrels of oil every day just to run cars (The Environmental Impact of Automobiles). Furthermore, many people have died or been injured in car accidents, every year there are approximately 5 million injured in car accidents (The environmental impact of cars). Even if all this involved paper-based technology, which we cannot do without in modern life. Our lives are based on our cars, without them most of us cannot carry out daily activities such as going to work/school or going to places of entertainment and relaxation.
