Modern Slavery demonstrates how this tragedy affects our economy on a much larger scale, whilst acknowledging those who are forced to go through this horrendous process of “freedom”. Since the good deeds of abolitionists such as Harriet Tubman, William Lloyd Garrison and Fredrick Douglas have been seen to no longer exist in societies around the world, modern slavery continues to go unacknowledged of its importance and activity in today's world. ("How Slavery Helped Build a World Economy."). From forced labor, to sex trafficking, to child labor, there are different forms of slavery currently impacting the world in intolerable ways (State 1). Because of these various forms of slavery, this confinement is still active in the world today, keeping the entire modern slavery world up to date. Forced labor occurs when corrupt employers force employees to work due to the current “high rates of unemployment, poverty, crime, discrimination, corruption, political conflict, or even cultural acceptance of the practice” in these societies, forcing these human beings to fill the positions of these slaves (State 1). Immigrants are also destined to be forced to work, as are forced labor women who are sexually abused. Sex trafficking is a widespread form of adult slavery, if an adult is forced into prostitution; he or she is an official victim of trafficking. Many women are forced to partake of this type of money at half the cost of food and other necessities of life, trapping them in the cycle of slavery. Ricardo eventually escaped through the truck's ventilation hatch, but this also required more than a year of forced labor that citizens actively supported due to the increased consumption of Florida tomatoes, while Ricardo's quality of life worsened .
