The vision of an angel made William Blake the most famous poet of his time. William Blake was born in his father's modest hosiery shop at 28 Broad Street Golden Square, London, on 28 November 1757. His father was James Blake, a hosiery maker, and his mother was Catherine Wright Armitage Blake. William Blake, having been educated mainly at home, learned to read and write from his mother. He attended school briefly. His parents noticed that he was different and did not force him to attend school, which was the main reason why his mother decided to teach him. “They observed that he was different from his peers and did not force him to attend mainstream school.” Blake later considered it a positive thing, later writing "Thank God I never got sent to school."
