Topic > Compare and Contrast the Hero and Beowulf - 1023

In the film, Deadpool is crazy, quick-witted, and at times inappropriate, while Beowulf is confident, brave, and cunning. Deadpool has regenerative abilities, immunity to disease, and high speed, while Beowulf has a magical sword, ability to breathe underwater, and incredible strength. Both Beowulf and Deadpool were considered strong, invincible, and basically legendary. Although both heroes have superhuman abilities, their personalities are quite different. However, the characteristics of the heroes adapt to the time period in which they are set. The Anglo-Saxon epic hero must have been excessively brave and powerful, as seen in Beowulf when he managed to slaughter a lake full of monsters (Beowulf, line 575-578). On the other hand, modern heroism portrays personalities or qualities seen in real modern society: free, wild, and expressive. From the qualities represented we can understand how the Anglo-Saxons wanted a brave and powerful hero, while modern society wants a hero they can relate to, like normal modern people do.
