One of the most controversial issues in society today is abortion, and at the moment, it is morally acceptable due to Roe v. Wade. However, when a Minnesota-led study reveals that women who have had abortions are 10 times more likely to commit suicide than women who have not had abortions, it is time to think seriously about whether or not abortion should be recognized as morally right. Considered by some to be a form of murder, anti-abortion laws should apply to all women to prevent any emotional distress of the abortion victim and to save the lives of innocent unborn human beings. Pro-Choice supporters believe that abortion should be legalized because they believe it is necessary to give women the power of choice. They have a strong belief that women are not subordinate, so they should be allowed to make moral decisions and should not be forced to have a child, but why should the child suffer for his mother's wrongdoings? Since only women can get pregnant, male legislators do not have the right to vote on anything related to abortion because it does not affect them personally. If an innocent woman is raped and then becomes pregnant, should she be forced to have the baby? Well, according to pro-choice believers, she should have the right to decide for herself whether she wants to have an abortion. An innocent unborn child definitely should not be punished for his father's crime and bad decisions. The mother must endure the harsh nine months it takes to get pregnant to save the life of the flawlessly developing baby inside her. Adoption is always an option and a much better alternative to murder. Yes, a woman has a choice, but there is always a morally right path to take when... middle of paper ......If a pregnancy is unwanted and the woman must continue and have the baby anyway, this could cause serious physical and mental problems to her personal well-being, but having an abortion does not eliminate any physical or mental problems that are bound to come, and if she did not want to get pregnant so badly, then she should have been chaste.“In everyday life, men and women make decisions that affect the life and death of existing people. They decide whether to join the army; whether to donate blood, a kidney or bone marrow to a child; whether to give money to Save the Children instead of buying a new sweater; whether to refuse a life-saving blood transfusion; whether to drive a small fort on walls that may protect passengers in an accident but often kills those in less substantial vehicles” (Borgmann 23).
