Since then, David Kim was appointed concertmaster of this orchestra in 1999 and has held his position ever since. He was born in Carbondale, Illinois, in 1963, and began playing the violin at age 3. David Kim began his studies with famed educator Dorothy DeLay at the age of 8. He later earned his bachelor's and master's degrees from the Juilliard School. Highlights of Kim's 2015-2016 season include teaching and performing residencies at Oberlin College, Bob Jones University, and the Boston Conservatory. He continued to appear on PBS stations nationwide and online at Khan Academy. David Kim has given recitals, lectures and appearances with orchestras throughout the United States, and launched the first annual David Kim Orchestral Institute at Cairn University in Philadelphia. He appears as a soloist with the Philadelphia Orchestra each season and with other orchestras around the world.
