Cell phone use has increased over the years. Cell phone use not only affects a person's character traits and their ability to hold regular, face-to-face conversations, but it also affects a person's ability to have healthy, stable relationships. Cell phones have changed from a luxury item to an everyday item. necessity for some people. Twenty-five years ago, the telephone was just a way to contact someone. Cell phones have become one of the most common communication tools for both young and old. Cellular devices have redefined relationships and social conduct and transformed the daily lives of many individuals. Cell phones no longer function only as a communication tool. Today it has many other uses. Cell phones are used for games, calculators, SMS, calendars, social sites and pictures. Additionally, there are many apps you can download on a phone. Cell phones help us keep track of our lives. Cell phone addiction has become so widespread that scientists have found a name for it. Nomophobia (short for cell phone phobia) is the fear of having no mobile contact at all. Studies have shown that this anxiety affects 61% of men and 70% of women. Men tend to have two cell phones, which could explain this inconsistency. (Urbandictionary.com, 2013.)
