This process is catalyzed by technological, economic and political trends operating in the contemporary world. (Gikonyo Wokabi and Omondi Owino, 2016) As Western society becomes more knowledgeable about issues affecting other ethnicities, where its people may suffer most economically, there are more opportunities for others to step in to assist and improve living standards. Another positive factor of globalization is the increase in media coverage which draws the world's attention to human rights violations. (Sites.google.com, 2016) This can further enhance a certain culture regarding one's views such as violence against women, encouraging proper identity formation and creating a better experience of belonging. The benefits of globalization may not be universal. “Globalization exposes companies to a wide range of cultures at once.” (Slater, Paliwoda, & Slater, 2007) Countries such as Japan have proven to be historically averse to globalization and have only slowly changed and evolved to accept and adapt to a more American-style approach to business. (Slater, Paliwoda, & Slater, 2007) This highlights the impact of globalization on ethnicity today as cultures must begin to develop a different attitude towards globalization to change for the better. This change can cause individuals to feel a loss of their cultural norms and values
