At its core, PIM is about entering and maintaining product information. In NHP, this is implemented through a system called Perfion which manages the database of all electrical product information. This information includes a number of different aspects such as electrical characteristics, product descriptions, product images, diagrams and much more. Evidently, data entry is an important aspect of this and is how Elizabeth got started in this area. Over time, he developed his skills and eventually took on the position of product information manager. Since NHP has over 25,000 different product lines, this data entry process can often be quite tedious and repetitive, but it is necessary to build and maintain the system. Automating data entry into the system would be ideal, but it would actually take more time than it's worth to write a program that can do it. The data entry itself is focused on efficiency and structure. Elizabeth has worked hard to ensure a rigid structure in the Perfion system that allows information to be set at different levels such as product categories, product lines and so on. This allows you to enter data in a more efficient and useful way as it avoids having to manually enter information for each product individually. But despite the tedious aspect of data entry, Elizabeth still finds the position very rewarding. She finds the work technically engaging, which is a key requirement for her coming from an engineering background. Another plus is that it is stable and not the kind of job that will “take your soul” [APPROPRIATE QUOTE?? IS THIS???], which is important to Elizabeth as she tends to devote herself completely to her work. These aspects of the job can also be attributed to NHP and their well-structured business environment. Elizabeth stated that the only two
