After more than 28 years, amid the controversy surrounding Mumia's conviction and subsequent death sentence, there are those who remain unconvinced. Many Mumia supporters and some supporters of abolishing the death penalty believe that corruption in the Philadelphia Police Department, along with a flawed justice system supported by racist judges, led to a conspiracy to commit murder by the state. Abu-Jamal Mumia, a well-known Philadelphia journalist and community activist, has been on death row since 1983 for the murder of Philadelphia police officer Daniel Faulkner in 1981. Because of his political views and his prior involvement with the Black Panther Party, Mumia was seen as a hero by some and a "menace to society" by others. At this point, guilty or not guilty is simply a rhetorical question that may never be answered. Many believe that Mumia is being held up as the scapegoat for a "hit" ordered by the "mafia" on Agent Faulkner. On the other hand, there are those who believe he is an insensitive and cold-blooded "cop"....
