In today's society, beliefs and views of marriage have developed increasingly diverse ideas. Homosexual relationships are gaining acceptance in our society. However, these couples are not allowed to get married, for many reasons. Whether legalizing gay marriage would harm society or might even benefit us cannot be proven. Individuals who are actually gay seem to be gaining more and more acceptance. Seventeen states have legalized gay marriage, for example California, Iowa and Maine are just of the many states that have already allowed people to marry someone of the same sex. You might start to wonder what exactly the problem is. Why is gay marriage despised and yet permitted? There are always two sides to every issue, for or against. Gay marriage is not accepted. The gay community seemed to have outgrown itself with larger numbers and, surprisingly, more acceptance. However, there are still people who believe it is morally wrong. Many people seem to firmly believe that homosexuality is wrong. Christians and Catholics and/or any other religious affiliation have a strong belief. This belief is against homosexuals and condemns their behavior and anyone else who accepts homosexuality. Accepting homosexual behavior goes against God's basic commands and rules. Marriage is seen as a religious sacrament and homosexual couples do not meet the specific criteria that have been established. On the other hand there are individuals who are totally in favor of gay marriage. I mean, why not? What harm would it do if it didn't touch you directly? Many believe that not allowing homosexuals not to marry is a denial of a fundamental right. These individuals have the right to marry, but cannot... middle of paper... sense, as it would create chaos in our society today. But homosexuality is not an acceptable idea. There are even more rules that many don't follow. It cannot be justified to also follow the rules you have chosen. These rules, or commandments established by God, were to be followed completely. The question, however, is: did God set these rules because they were right, or did he set them because he could. I have an idea why these were proposed, but what if these rules were extreme. Would people still choose to follow them? Definitely not. I don't follow some rules that I think are wrong. One of the ones I care a lot about is letting gays get married. They too should be allowed to do what their happiness entails. If God wanted us to be exactly the same, He would have made it so, but we are not for some unknown reason.
