Have you ever wanted something so badly? Something that was right at your fingertips? And no matter what you do, you just can't grasp it? Dark Flame, a book written by Alyson Noel and published by St. Martin's Griffin in 2010, is a novel aimed at young adults. Dark Flame is the fourth novel in the Immortal series. This novel is about hope and trust, which shows how vigorous love can be. It all started with a spell. A spell that backfires and binds her to her greatest enemy. Someone he hated. Ever Bloom, a desperate young girl, needs serious help. She's gotten too deep into dark magic and can't seem to get out of it. Ever is at the point that she will do anything to be with her true love. One night, while Ever is at a party, her best friend Haven gets into serious trouble. Ever is therefore faced with a serious choice. Or save her best friend by making her immortal? Or take the antidote that will finally allow her to be with her true love? Ever isn't sure what to do, but she won't let her best friend die and become the thing she fears most. Ever decides to save her best friend and make her immortal. "Excuse me? But are you really? I mean, you drop a huge bomb on me here - and I mean really huge - because my ears are still ringing and my head is still spinning and I need you to say it again just to make sure I said really what I think - and your only concern is that I speak too loudly are you kidding me? (Noel page 1). Haven is buzzing, but Ever is more worried. He has to keep Haven happy and quiet about the immortals so that no one finds out. Meanwhile, while trying to keep Haven quiet, Ever must also maintain her relationship with Damen. It's a place where they can do whatever they want and manifest whatever they want. “Contemplating an exquisite utopia, a seemingly endless field of flaming red tulips with a stunning pavilion placed right in the center. “Surely you didn’t create all this now?” (Noel page 184). In this scene Damen manifested the red tulips, pavilion and many other things to give forever as a birthday gift. In life this is just not possible. When you read the book, your imagination is simulated and you think beyond the ordinary. After reading Dark Flame you can learn that love is the most powerful thing in the world. Not only is it powerful, but it can take you far. Furthermore, you can also learn that when the going gets tough, never give up. It won't rain forever. Works Cited Noel, Alyson. Dark Flame.
