First Day of Secondary School - Original Writing I was so excited and yet so terrified at the thought of my first day of secondary school. It felt a lot like my first day as an adult, the first day I felt like an adult. As I filled my new bag full of new pens and pencils, I couldn't help but think that all the rumors in my head of hot flashes, bullying, and lots of homework are they true? I guess I was about to find out. Wearing my new navy blazer, white shirt and tie, I slammed the door behind me and quickly ran to my friend Vicki's house. I knocked on the door and when it opened I could see that all my anticipation and excitement was shared in Vicki's head, which put me a little at ease. We continued to the car and boarded our first ever bus to Bishop Fox's Secondary School. As we got closer to the school, the paths far and wide were filled with schoolchildren. Would some of these strangers become my new friends? We stopped at the entrance. It seemed so big compared to my old school. How could I learn to move? Since we were the new kids, we had to gather in the school hall with the rest of our year to talk to our head of year. It was easy to find as it was right across the lobby. We threw open the bulky doors and suddenly a wave of deafening noise reached my ears. There were crowds upon crowds of children everywhere. Everyone had been in their friendship groups since elementary school, and we found ours after several minutes of pushing through the packs of kids. There was the unfamiliar smell of a new place in the atmosphere… in the middle of the paper… it would fail me on every test and hold me against it for the rest of the year. I worked in silence for the rest of the lesson, and everything passed at a snail's pace. After the worst class of my life thus far, the rest of the day passed surprisingly quickly. My next class was art and we just looked at different paintings, followed by lunch where we gossiped about my scoldings in science. My last lesson was theatre, where we went around telling each other our names, where we were from etc etc etc. What a relief when the doorbell rang at twenty past three to go home. I had done it. I had made it through my first day of school with only a little effort in the hallway and just one test. I met Vicki outside the entrance and headed home reflecting on our next five years at Fox's Secondary School..
