Jean Gimpel's Medieval Machine, displays information about the technological achievements of the Middle Ages. The basic idea is that over the course of the two centuries from around 1050 Western Europe went through a kind of industrial revolution that was just as important as that of the 19th century. In his book Jean Gimpel traces medieval primary industry, which includes energy sources such as the creation of mills powered by wind energy or water. In these cases, the rotation of the wheels served to move the shafts which were connected to the gears used to drive the entire machinery. The agricultural revolution includes the creation of the plow. The plow was considered very important. It existed before this period but was subsequently improved. This new and improved version was capable of plowing wetter and heavier soils.
