Oscar de la Renta has lived a fulfilling life in the world of fashion and continues to make a lasting mark with multiple labels. One of the world's most famous and recognized names in the fashion industry, de la Renta has created an empire. Best known for his elaborate outfits and attention to detail, he has a stunning figure that always turns heads. Born on July 22, 1932, Oscar de la Renta grew up in the capital of the Dominican Republic. The bright colors and tropical flowers of her island childhood would later influence her fashion designs. He became interested in painting and decided to travel to Spain to further develop his skills. He studied painting at the Academy of San Ferdinand in Madrid at the age of 18. Immersed in all of Spanish culture, de la Renta became interested in fashion. Shortly thereafter, in 1950, he undertook an apprenticeship with the famous Cristobal Balenciaga. He began designing for the world-famous designer and learned the tricks of the trade by observing the workshops and studying the clothes and techniques. Years later, around 1960, de la Renta moved to Paris where he joined Antonio Castillo at Lanvin as a couture assistant. There he continues to draw. It is inspired by the use of feathers, jewels and finishes used by Castillo in couture designs. In 1963, however, Oscar realized that the future of fashion lay more in ready-to-wear than in couture, so he left for America. He ends up continuing to work designing bespoke suits for Elizabeth Arden. However it allows him to have his name on the label and gets him name recognition. Two years later the recognition bears fruit. In 1965 the Oscar de la Renta label was created. He combines the vibrant colors of his youth with luxurious fabrics… half the paper… for a few thousand dollars. His designs are elegant and use exotic, high-quality fabrics. Politicians like Hilary Clinton and movie stars like Kate Hudson have worn his designs. Oscar de la Renta's work will always maintain the highest standards and hold a place in fashion history.
