Topic > The Effects on Drunk Driving - 1411

There are many reasons why people drink and drive. Many people continually drive under the influence. Drivers have a responsibility while driving while intoxicated. Drunk driving is a problem in the United States today. People need to be aware of the consequences it has on people and realize that drinking and driving is a problem and needs to be stopped. Why not ban alcohol? If it were illegal to drink there would be fewer drunk drivers. A common consequence of drunk driving is peer influence. People have a difficult relationship between alcohol consumption and the risk of suffering social consequences. Also, at a young age or belief that alcohol use is not harmful, peer influence, family experience, school factors, alcohol as peer interaction, and disapproval of alcohol use or not drinking. Peer influences can be a problem with drunk driving because having friends who use alcohol or who believe alcohol is acceptable. “High school students who use alcohol or other substances are five times more likely to drop out of school” (Hingson). Family experience can also be a problem with drunk driving because excessive alcohol consumption by parents, siblings, or any parental supervision can be the cause of the onset of alcohol use. Peer friendships are viral due to the lack of peer influences. “Teenagers who drink alcohol have friends of the opposite sex who do the same” (Join Together Staff). Peer drinking is more than an influence. It could be from their own parents starting to drink. If children see their parents or friends drinking, they will think it is okay to drink. When children were little they admired their parents and thought everything was fine. When they saw an adult drinking as children, they thought it was okay to do so as they grew up.
