Which world war was the largest? World War I and World War II were both major wars that significantly changed the way the world is today. World War I began to modernize how the military fought wars; however, World War II completely changed the world, especially in America. World War II gave way to civil rights movements, women's independence, and the rise of weapons power. The war allowed African Americans to fight on the front alongside white troops overseas, which sparked the civil rights movement when they returned home under segregation. Women stepped up for males absent overseas and emerged in factories to help produce supplies and weapons for the war. The new weapons used on the front lines have been improved compared to the previous ones. The first lady, Eleanor Roosevelt, said, “The nation cannot expect people of color to feel that the United States is worth defending if they continue to be treated as they are now treated” (“Turning”). This was important because African Americans were disenfranchised, but continued to support the United States during the war. With the draft, many blacks were able to enlist and lift the amount of African Americans in the army out of poverty, and as the war worsened, the segregation of troops began to decrease due to the difficulty of keeping troops separate when both were destroyed well for the beginning of the civil rights movement, once these African Americans returned home from the war they returned to segregation. This caused a stir because men and women were given more rights fighting for their country abroad, but once they returned from the war it returned to Although the aircraft was used during World War I, it did not become a major part of the fighting until to the Second World War. This weapon created another level of air combat that included bombers, fighters, radar and the ability to assess the enemy from above. The increased amount of bombing increased the need for improved radar technology. Previously used radar was inaccurate and of little use; but with improvements, the military was able to see enemy ships or submarines and counterattack. One of the most important elements that made World War II more significant than World War I was the use of nuclear warfare. The United States dropped the world's first atomic bomb on Hiroshima on August 6, 1945, and another bomb on Nagasaki three days later. The Japanese quickly surrendered from the war and this led to the end of World War II. America dropping the atomic bomb showed the world how great a threat the United States was, especially to Russia, which was another major nation at the time.
