Topic > Compare and contrast Achilles and Hector in the Iliad

The poem begins with a plague brought upon the Greeks by Apollo when Agamemnon refuses to return Chryseis, daughter of Chryses. After nine days Achilles decides to have an assembly to resolve the problem, Agamemnon decides to return Chryseis, but takes Briseis away from Achilles. Insulted by Agamemnon, Achilles decides to stop fighting for Agamemnon and he and his troops return home. This tells us that Achilles has trouble controlling his pride and the anger that rises when someone insults his pride. It is soon after Patroclus' death that Achilles redirects his anger towards Hector and reunites with him
