Birth order not only determines the order in which people are born, but can also determine what characteristics a person will acquire as they grow up. However, there are some ways to determine birth order. It's not always just that this is the oldest, so they have these character traits. The sex of the child and the age difference between children can also determine the birth order. Blended families and adoption also make a difference. Depending on the child's age at the time of adoption, the characteristics of his or her birth order may change by placing him or her in a new position. In mixed families most of the time the order does not change because the child is older and has already fully developed in this order. Birth order can determine many things, but it doesn't always suit every person. As Teresa said in her "Birth Order Traits" web post on the Cute Kid site, firstborns are normally on time, but I'm almost never on time. If it's my turn to look at the clock we're in trouble. In his birth order blog and website Clifford Isaacson states that most firstborns are structured and perform best on a set schedule. Well I always put everything off until the last second, underestimating the time needed to complete the task. Even if people tell me I need to take more time to do things, I usually brush them off. I tell them I know what I'm doing and I don't need their help. I work best when I do things on my own time and schedule rather than on a schedule set by someone else. Clifford also said that compromising easily is one of the traits most firstborns share. Anyone I've ever spoken to can tell you I don't compromise at all, it's like dragging two bulls out of a fight.
