It was amazing to see those cute, smiling faces as they walked into the classroom on the first day. The parents were there with cameras! It was nice to see this experience from the other end of the spectrum. A parent came to me since we met yesterday and told me that when he was in elementary school, he had a teacher in the classroom and that it is never too early to make an impact on students. Another parent corrected his son when he tried to give me his school supplies and took his son to my cooperating teacher. So, I got to experience different perspectives about parenting. Another parent asked me to fill out a “My Favorite Things” worksheet so she could get to know me. After the first day of school, I sent my welcome letter home with each student. I got a good response from my letter too. I feel very comfortable and accepted by all the students and their parents. I sit at the back of the room at the guided reading table and observe, take notes and monitor the students. As the days go by, I redirect students, help them when they get stuck during solo work periods, and make sure students "take a bubble" and walk calmly around the hall.
