Adoption is a process in which one person assumes parenting for another and, in doing so, permanently transfers all rights and responsibilities from the parent or parents organic. Unlike guardianship or other systems designed to care for young people, adoption is intended to effect a permanent change in status and as such requires social recognition, through legal or religious sanctions. Adoption has changed greatly over the centuries, shifting its focus from issues of adult adoption and inheritance toward children and the creation of families; its structure shifts from the recognition of continuity between adoptees and relatives towards relationships of lesser intensity. In modern times, adoption is a primary vehicle that meets the needs of homeless, neglected, abused, and runaway children (Wikipedia, “Adoption”). Social workers are expected to grow 20% between 2012 and 2020, according to the BLS (“Adoption”). Some counselors believe that because adoption touches on so many family issues, it naturally evolves from a more general practice. One difficult misconception that adoption counselors face is the perception that they are thieves or child sellers. A birth mother may need help making the difficult decision to place a child for adoption. Many adoption counselors are social workers who have focused on adoption because they have had personal experience with adoption (“CFNC.org”). This is kind of the case with my situation. My parents were about to begin the adoption process when my mother found out she was pregnant. For Glory To, the hardest time is when the placement doesn't work... middle of paper... their children, they should not panic, they may be able to adopt!
