Imagine a calm environment at work and one day you will receive a phone call. He's the principal of your son's elementary school and he has terrible news. An intruder has entered your child's school and committed what is commonly known as a school shooting. Things get hectic when you rush to school to see if your child is okay. Luckily he makes it out of school safely and you wrap your arms around him while other families are devastated by the aftermath of the school shooting. The attacker's motive was the result of playing violent video games. The most popular video games today are loaded with sexual themes, profanity, and murder. These games are sold to the public and, if they fall into the wrong hands, they can become dangerous. They say things change for the better or for the worse, and violence in video games is definitely a change for the worse. Violent video games are dangerous to the human mind. For this reason, violent video games should have stronger restrictions on explicit content. Other solutions include offering lessons in schools to raise awareness about violence in video games and having retailers do a better job of distributing video games to the appropriate age group. Due to the fact that video games are becoming more and more violent, children are increasingly exposed to this violence. The authors of “Update: Video Games and Violence” say that violent video games should not be available to children. Violence in video games may cause them to hurt or attack others (Update). The article states that "children cannot purchase harmful substances such as alcohol and tobacco", they point out, "violent video games should be kept out of their possession" (Update).
