Designers Past, Present and Future – DT Textiles Assignment by Dana Pickens (VHL) Designers of the Past: The Industrial Revolution The Industrial Revolution had a great impact on politics, society and economy. The industrial revolution caused urbanization as most people lived in rural areas before the revolution, when many people moved to cities, leading to the growth of cities. This was due to the increase in employment brought by the revolution, which consisted of working in factories near the city. People also moved to the city as there was water and railways here, which helped in the marketing of finished products, and the city was also used for banking and marketing. The Industrial Revolution also changed living standards as people living in industrial cities usually lived in crowded, cheap tenements, while people in mining towns usually lived in rows of identical cottages. This poor standard of living was due to poor quality bricks and a shortage of public sanitation machinery. The industrial revolution also gave birth to the working class. This class referred to anyone (men, women, and children) who worked in industry in mines, pottery factories, and textile factories. Even people such as craftsmen were demoted to this class as new machines mass-produced products, replacing people. The industrial revolution also had an economic impact. The industrial revolution really changed employment. New machines that were invented replaced people who did it by hand, making these jobs non-existent. However, these machines needed people to use them and created new jobs. The machines needed energy which generally came from coal, which had to be mined and which created even more jobs. Even though there were more jobs, the job was very... middle of paper... without specifying the necessary qualifications. I believe the most important criterion is a background in 3D design/drawing because this way the successful candidate knows what he is doing and can work more efficiently. In this advert, the job described requires someone with experience with a sewing machine, laying and cutting fabric. The person the company is looking for is productive, hardworking, motivated, pays attention to detail, wants to learn and has good time management skills. The job advertisement does not specify the necessary qualifications. I think the most important criterion is to be an experienced sewing machine person as the ad mentions this numerous times and it seems like the job is all about using the machine so you should know how to use it. A new process used in an industrial sector/ Commercial setting in the textile sector is 3D printing
