Belle and the Beast stage an unexpected love story, driven by the spell cast on the Beast. This is eventually overcome after they profess their love for each other. The two songs that will be compared are: Be Our Guest – sung by Lumiere and the castle staff and Beauty and the Beast – sung by Mrs Potts. The first piece "Be Our Guest" is set shortly after Belle has sacrificed her freedom in exchange for her father's and is confined to her bedroom. Hungry, Belle soon ventures into the kitchen, where she is greeted by Lumiere and the castle's enchanted objects staff in an elaborate attempt to officially welcome Belle to the Beast's castle. The second piece "Beauty and the Beast" is performed by Mrs. Potts and is heard while Belle and the Beast dance in the castle ballroom. The first is "Be Our Guest" performed by Lumiere and the castle staff is written in the key of B major. Lumiere presents this as an elaborate musical performance for Belle after she simply sacrifices her freedom to the Beast in exchange for her father being freed. While Belle is confined to her room, she ventures out to find something to eat. Wandering through the kitchen, Belle is then greeted by Lumiere. Immediately, Lumiere leads the castle's enchanted objects staff in an elaborate production - in an attempt to officially welcome Belle to the Beast's castle, literally to "be [their] guest". The lyrics of this song are given as warm and welcoming, by insisting on Belle 'go ahead, open your menu / take a look and then you will / be our guest / oui, our guest / be our guest', Lumiere also sings of being human again and his desire to serve, feeling that if he is not useless, 'good old days when we were useful', 'life is so unnerving/For a servant... middle of paper... ...during the song 'Be Our Guest' various pitches and tones produced the boisterous atmosphere and captured it using a key of B major and a baritone vocal range, from the low note of F to the high note of D. In contrast, in "Beauty and the Beast" a key of F major was used to help the audience to connect to the romantic side of the musical piece with Mrs. Potts' emotions of love and friendship. So the obvious difference is the effect that pitch and mood have on the style and tonality of the music. In conclusion Beauty and The Beast successfully produced two pieces with comparable tone and intonation by integrating similar instrumentation and mood in two different circumstances with further success in making the audience feel the desired emotions. Therefore Beauty and the Beast successfully used musical elements in the creation of these two pieces.
