Topic > Essay on Night by Elie Wiesel - 2037

NightThis book is by a Jewish man named Elie Wiesel; talks about the atrocities he witnessed as a boy committed by the Nazis during World War II. The things mentioned in this book are the infamous Holocaust which took the lives of millions of Jews and other ethnic groups. He also finds himself deported to the infamous Auschwitz concentration/extermination camp. During his stay in Auschwitz he met some famous people such as Doctor Josef Mengele alias "The Angel of Death" known to his patients. He earned this nickname by performing deadly human experiments on convicted Jews and other ethnic groups. The worst part is that these terrifying events occurred when he was only twelve years old. The experiences he endured led him to question his religion and he slowly loses faith in God. War raged in Europe. A twelve-year-old Jewish boy named Elie lives in the city of Sighet, Transylvania. He is the only child of an Orthodox Jewish family that strictly follows its Jewish tradition. His parents are shopkeepers and his father is a highly respected man within the Jewish community of Sighet. Elie has two older sisters, Hilda and Bea, and a younger sister named Tzipora. Elie studies the mystical Jewish texts of the Kabbalah with Moshe the Beadle. Moshe becomes a teacher for Elie and teaches him Jewish traditions. The government subsequently expels the Jews and deports some Jews from Sighet, one of them being Moshe. He returns to Sighet to warn them of the impending danger, namely the mass execution of Jews across Europe. The city of Sighet found him mad and ignored his warning. The people of the city did not think that Hitler would kill the Jews. A couple of years pass, the city of Sighet now finds itself under the control of the Nazi Germ... half paper... only food. A couple of days earlier the American army was approaching; the Nazis decided to kill all the Jews remaining in the camp. Every day thousands of Jews are shot. About 20,000 people remained in the camp, the Nazis decided to evacuate and kill all those remaining in the camp. When the evacuation began, the air raid siren went off, sending everyone home. When it seemed that everything was back to normal and that the evacuation was proceeding as planned, the resistance movement struck and drove the SS out of the camp. Hours later, the US Army arrived at Buchenwald. Now free, the prisoners thought only of feeding themselves. Elie suffered food poisoning and spent weeks in the hospital. When he finally stood up and looked at himself in the mirror (he hadn't seen himself in the mirror for years), he was shocked by how he looked. He said he looked dead..
