Topic > Essay on Cultural Heritage - 2067

“Every piece of the past tells something about what we were or what we are. By expanding our ties with past generations, we commit ourselves to future generations and give dignity to the present.” (Quote from “Colombian Minister of Culture Elvira Cuervo de Jaramillo”)The past provides us with knowledge and understanding of our culture and traditions. These different cultures give people knowledge of their beliefs, religions and customs. Every culture has its own sacred places that help people develop their specific identities. Destroying such places not only demolishes cultural identities, but also history because our past is what helped us grow into the individuals we are today. Every person or community belongs to a heritage. We require this legacy as our collective resource for a distinct subcultural identity of society. In the past, in the subcontinent, all societies belonging to different religions coexisted, respecting their respective institutions. Soon after 1947, when Muslims claimed their separate homeland, the situation changed completely. Most of the religious institutions belonging to different societies have been destroyed and the remaining ones are in the process of demolition. Violence, hatred and religion-based extremism have started to increase now. I am concerned that why is there no tolerance between people belonging to a different religion? Why is there no passion to preserve cultural identities or heritage that belongs to the past? Every place of worship should be respected whether you believe in it or not. We were made to respect each other, we were made to tolerate. My initial research was based on the question that whether in an Islamic context... middle of paper... not only causes intolerance, but has failed to provide any legal security to religious minorities. Conclusion Like the United States, our government should also begin working towards the preservation of religious institutions because they are the means of tourism that ultimately benefit our economy. Not all people feel a connection to their cultural heritage, but many people do. Some may think that traditions are obsolete and no longer relevant in these modern times. Maybe others don't. Preservation of historic sites along with religious institutions of different cultures enhances the community. If the government begins to take a stand for minorities in Pakistan and provide funds for their places of worship, it will enable new construction projects and give rise to various activities including cultural tourism, economic development and social improvement..
