War is something everyone knows about. it is very important and it is likely that throughout the history of the world there is always someone influenced by it at any time. Wars come and go leaving behind many good and bad things, whatever light you look at it from, weapons are always one of those things. Wartime is known for pushing technology to the limit, including weapons. There have been several wars that have had an impact on future weapons, but the Civil War is the furthest where you can still see a major and prominent impact even with modern weapons. The Civil War took many existing weapons technologies and improved and standardized them. New weapons technologies were also implemented during this period to aid the war effort. Many of these advances in weapons are evident today, thanks to the hard work of people during the times of the Civil War. Infantry is arguably the most important thing you need in a war. In previous wars, soldiers used so-called line tactics. (Ben Judy) Line tactics essentially meant lining up soldiers in rows and marching towards each other so they could shoot each other. As crazy as it sounds, it was pretty much the most effective way to fight, given the weapons they used. (Ben Judy) At that time they used what is called a smoothbore musket. Tactics have changed and new weapons have been implemented. The standardization of the rifle arose due to its increased accuracy, with this the army then began to supply this type of weapon to the infantry. The rifle, it seems, uses a rifled barrel instead of the smoothbore used by its predecessors. The rifling was the result of cutting spiral grooves into the barrel of the weapon (Andrew Dupps... center of paper... one way or another. Whichever way you look at the influence of the war for even more deadly modern weapons, whether in good or bad light, the Civil War is one of the most if not the most influential wars for existing and important advances in the field of weapons.
