The Zodiac Killer Project The Zodiac Killer's crime spree is one of the biggest unsolved murder cases of all time. The Zodiac murders took place from the late 1960s until around 1972. Most of the Zodiac murders took place in Northern California. Some major areas where the murders occurred are Benicia, Vallejo, Lake Berryessa, and San Francisco, California. Two of the four men attacked survived and three out of three women were killed. The ages of the victims range from approximately 16 to 29 years. The Zodiac claimed to have killed 37 people in letters he sent to the local newspaper. Investigators were only able to confirm seven victims, two of these seven survived. The seven murders consisted of David Faraday, Betty Jensen, Michael Mageau, Darlene Ferrin, Bryan Hartnell, Cecelia Shepard, and Paul Stine. The Zodiac struck first when he committed the Lake Herman Road Attack murders: it was the shooting of Betty Lou Jenson who was 16 years old and David Arthur Faraday who was 17 years old, both in high school. The date of the first murders was December 20, 1968 along Lake Herman Road in the city of Benicia, California. At around 10.15pm, David Faraday parked his mother's Walker off the road on Lover's Lane, which is a turnout on the side of the road. Shortly after 11 p.m., their bodies were found by a nearby resident, Stella Borges, and no leads were found when the Solano County Sheriff's Department looked into the case. After the forensic data was analyzed by Robert Graysmith, he concluded that another car had entered the turnout shortly before 11pm and parked right next to Faraday's car. The killer then got out of the car and headed towards Faraday and Jensen while they were in their car, he... in the middle of the paper... there was a partner.Thompson 5The Zodiac changed his appearance from time to time to have a physical description of his figure best known for the symbol he wore and wrote on his letters. There is still no one responsible for the Zodiac murders. No one was caught and he was not proven to be Zodiac's killer, but most of the agencies that undertook the investigation have kept the investigations open and have not yet closed them. The San Francisco Police Department closed the investigation in April 2004 but reopened it in March 2007.Thompson 6Work CitedGraysmith, Robert. Zodiac. New York, NY: Berkley Books, 2007.
