Topic > Common Core State Standards - 1258

Since 2010, 45 states have adopted the same educational standards called Common Core State Standards (CCSS). The initiative is sponsored by the National Governors Association and the Council of Chief State School Officers and aims to establish consistent educational standards across states. The Common Core Standards are a state-sponsored initiative that established a single set of clear educational standards for kindergarten through 12th grade in English and mathematics standards. These standards help educate all students equally, help children who move interstate, and help prepare students for college and the workplace. The Common Core Standard helps provide teachers and parents with a clear understanding of what students are expected to learn. It is designed to help educate our children for the future; provides them with the knowledge and skills needed to prepare for post-secondary education and employment. “The standards are designed to be robust and relevant to the real world.” (National Governors Association Center for Best Practices, Council of Chief State School Officers) With the Common Core Standards students will now be able to transfer schools and understand what is going on because the Common Core Standard provides a clear understanding all students of what they are doing are expected to learn. It will provide all students with an equal opportunity to learn the same curriculum, regardless of which school they attend. These standards will not limit students to different achievement levels among students; instead, they will ensure more consistent exposure to the materials and learning experience through instruction and teacher preparation.
