For the average middle school student, it takes about 90 minutes to complete homework each day. According to a study conducted by Harris Cooper, professor at Duke University, if children had to do more than an hour of homework a day and also do an extracurricular activity, then they might go to bed late and the next day they might not be able to carry out their business in the best possible way. Homework is a blast. Most schools encourage children to do extracurricular activities and most of them attend after-school care for an hour or more and then add another hour to do homework and dinner and do household chores which may take until 9 and studies show that children around 9 to 12 year olds should go to bed around 7:30-9:00 and if they are used to going to bed at 8 then they will be too tired to play in their next activity extracurricular. Homework is a knife. Research shows that you should sleep at least 7 hours a night. So if you go to bed at 11.45pm and take a few hours to go to sleep and end up going to sleep at 2am and waking up at 7am, then you'll only get 5 hours of sleep a night because of homework and stuff like that. that's not enough sleep and can make you perform badly in your big game! This is why teachers shouldn't be allowed to give homework after school, maybe they could give it during lunch or
