The American Revolution is a very important and historic war for the history and independence of America. However, although important, the war seen today seems very strange considering that America back then, when against England had almost no chance of winning, yet America still won the war. Many wonder whether it was luck or skill that made Americans win the war that led to the birth of the United States. Ultimately the American Revolution was won with the key factor of luck, and you can see that this is the case whether it is what happened after the Battle of Long Island, the Battle of Trenton, and the winter that preceded, of General Burgoyne's stupidity and mistakes, of the events that led to Yorktown and then Yorktown itself, and even the way the war ended, because all of this and more had to do with luck. The first great example of luck in the American Revolution is what happened after the Battle of Long Island. When the British decided to take control of New York and use it as their headquarters, George Washington decided that he would drive out the British so that the city would not fall into enemy hands, and the result of this is the Battle of Long Island. The battle ended and the Americans lost because they were outnumbered, they failed to reach a high position and attempted to fight both the British army and navy, and while so far all this seems very unfortunate for the Americans, it is after the defeat that the major comes a stroke of luck. After the Americans were defeated, they couldn't really retreat because they couldn't march and this would have been the best time for the British to finish off the Americans, except the British were too busy laughing at the Americans as they tried to retreat a ......middle of paper......t skills during the war. To conclude, it can be shown that skill was an important factor in the victory of the American Revolution, however luck was a more important key factor as without it the Americans would never have been able to use skill. now it can be seen that the American Revolution was won thanks to the key factor of luck. This was demonstrated by the survival of the Americans after the Battle of Long Island, by the winter preceding the Battle of Trenton and even by the battle itself, by the many mistakes made by General Burgoyne during the anaconda plan, by the experience in the South of General Cornwallis and from the march up to Virginia and finally the siege of Yorktown and the mere fact that the English tired of the war shows how important luck was. So now it should be easy for anyone to understand that the main reason for the American victory was that of luck.
