Tribalism (Jihad) versus globalism (“McWorld”): a threat to democracy? The cases of Saudi Arabia and EgyptDifferent developments on different scales make the world a place of multiple thoughts due to distinct impressions of human beings. Pessimistic impressions are often formed when two phenomena become polarized. Thoughts are defined as contradictory when these two phenomena are considered as factors that have the ability to threaten the phenomena when placed in opposite positions. The meanings of concepts change depending on adherents who believe that a particular concept should be applied in a certain sense. Notions of concepts change due to different attitudes being adopted towards them. While one group of people might assume that a particular conceptualization should be considered auspicious since its favorable sides are greater than its offensive sides, another group of people will disagree since they will have another belief that they will conceptualize as more promising due to the fact that its auspicious sides are superlative compared to its possible unfortunate consequences. Developments occur as people attempt to allow themselves to be dominated and apply the concepts they believe to be the most excellent for humanity. There are no political thoughts that can be mentioned that all humanity can agree on. This is also considered the mental analysis of the reasons why ideologies are formed, which are constantly fighting with each other (Sartori). In this essay, the focus will be on the theory of Benjamin Barber, who argued that the struggle between tribalism and globalism constitutes a threat to democracy.
