Career Document: Real Estate Agent We will all experience buying a home at some point. Why not ask a real estate agent to help you and guide you through the process? I chose this profession because it interests me for many different reasons. Wouldn't you like a job where your schedule revolves around your life? Or could you control the growth of your business? Or basically, over time, become your own boss? These are some of the many reasons why real estate caught my attention. A real estate agent is a person who sells and rents buildings and land for clients. This career is very important if you are buying a house, but don't really know what you are doing. Real estate agents can help guide you through the process and answer any questions you have. Real estate has always existed, it just wasn't defined as an actual occupation. Real estate companies only came into being around the 1950s. People can now officially buy and sell homes and profit from them at the same time. Real estate licenses vary in each state. I provide Florida guidelines because that's where I could see myself living. These are all Florida licensing requirements. You must be 18 years old and have a high school diploma or equivalent. You must provide arrest and police history ("FAR-Education"). The state basically runs a background check on you. Once you have met the education requirements, you can apply to take all state real estate exams. To become licensed in Florida, you must complete 63 classroom hours of required Florida Real Estate courses. Florida also has this thing called mutual recognition with 9... middle of the card... but we'll learn from them as you get deeper into the business.
