Illegal immigration is a serious problem in the United States. The border between the United States and Mexico is not secure, which allows immigrants to continue to cross our border and live in this country illegally. Many of the illegal immigrants living in the United States have lived here for several years and have children who are U.S. citizens. They came here to build a better life, and lenient enforcement of U.S. immigration laws allows them to remain here with only a slight risk of being deported. Illegal immigration into the United States is of enormous proportions. More than 10 million undocumented aliens currently reside in the United States, and the population is growing by 700,000 per year. Typical illegal aliens come to America primarily for better jobs and in the process add value to the U.S. economy. However, they detract from value by weakening the legal and national security environment. Even if they do not pose a direct security threat, the presence of millions of undocumented migrants distorts the law, diverts resources and effectively creates cover for terrorists and criminals. Another issue affecting illegal immigration is the law recently passed in Arizona. The law stated that it was a crime for anyone not to carry their immigration documents and gave the police the power to detain them. Not carrying your documents has been made an official state crime, a misdemeanor. This law represents serious discrimination and racial profiling. Most illegal immigrants do not have a high school education or any technical training, so they usually work for low wages in jobs for unskilled workers. While some argue that illegal immigrants do work that Americans don't do, this practice of paying illegal immigrants lower wages actually hurts America... middle of paper...g responses from Americans who believe that if illegal immigrants with the amnesty they would take away his job. In conclusion, illegal immigration is a threat to the United States because it does not I don't know what immigrants bring when they immigrate to the United States. Although I propose an amnesty to those immigrants who have lived here in the United States for more than 5-6 years and have no criminal record and have been an example to the community. While not everyone agrees with an amnesty, some of the people who would be against it are Democrats or Americans because it would take away their jobs and it would hurt low-skilled Americans.
