Proposal for Entertainment Venues in Waldorf, Maryland If you blink, you'll miss it. It's so easy to drive through Waldorf, Maryland, a city of nearly twenty-six thousand residents ("Waldorf, Maryland"). There are many shopping centers and restaurants, as well as constant construction work to always offer the same. This targets the average age group of 32.8 ("Waldorf, Maryland"), however does not meet the needs of the city's young adults. Growing up in Waldorf, I experienced this in addition to shopping, walking the neighborhoods, and watching a movie; there is very little else offered here for those leaving or graduating from high school. $12,000 should be allocated to build more entertainment facilities for Waldorf youth because this will increase the city's revenue and foster social growth as a way to revitalize the city and reduce juvenile delinquency. I propose that there be a $12,000 stipend set aside for the construction of entertainment facilities to discourage young adults from criminal activity and instead encourage them to participate in activities that could prevent this problem. This stipend would come from revenue already included in the Charles County property tax, which goes towards maintaining the land and current businesses. I chose $12,000 to cover the initial costs of building at least three businesses that bring revenue back to the city: Dave & Buster's, the YMCA, and a local skate park. According to Charles County Government, the growth request would cost $1,805 each (“Charles County Government” [2]). Additionally, the architectural and design planning for these assets would cost $1,203 each (“Charles County Government” [2]). Coupled with construction costs and fees… middle of the paper… current activities are not enough to put our city on the map or interest its youth. I urge our community to step forward and our city officials to consider this situation carefully. My proposal is best for the community as it requires no changes to current buildings, but instead encourages entirely new businesses to enliven a wary consumer group and protect our youth from going down a dangerous path. How else could we get the weatherman to list our city on the map? Works Cited “Charles County Government.” Approved Fees and Expenses for Fiscal Year 2011. 2010. PDF File. "LOL Stations Who we are".
