Topic > Importance of Garden City - 1718

The garden city is a plan or method of urban planning suggested by Sir Ebenezer Howard in the United Kingdom. The garden city concept was sought as an alternative to the polluted, overcrowded and miserable cities that appeared in Britain in the late 19th century. Garden cities were suggested and planned as self-contained cities surrounded by green areas known as "green belts", containing appropriate areas of residence, industry and agriculture in a particular ratio. The garden city would be home to 32,000 people on a 1,000-acre site and surrounded by 5,000 acres of land known as agricultural estates, planned in a concentric circular pattern with open spaces, public parks and six 120-foot-wide boulevards joining at the center of the city called "the garden" due to its circumference. According to the concept, the garden city is a self-sustaining city so that when it reaches its maximum potential, a new city can be similarly developed nearby. Such garden cities will be built around a larger 12,000-acre central city with a capacity to accommodate 58,000 people, which will be connected via rail and road networks. (Osborn, ed.1946) Details and structure of Garden City Six avenues running from the center of the city to the circumference, divide the city into six equal parts or neighborhoods. In the center there is a circular space of about 5.5 acres there is a beautiful garden and around this garden there are the largest public buildings such as the town hall, the theater, the assembly hall, the library, the art gallery, the museum and hospital. Beyond this is the Crystal Palace, built on 145 acres, which is a public space where artifacts are generally put up for sale. Passing the Crystal Palace you find the f...... middle of paper ......ds in the middle of the sea in the Arabian Gulf with this technique. In the 21st century urban planners have to deal with many of the social, economic, environmental and many other problems that perhaps I have failed to mention, in the name of Sustainability. The word sustainability is a very complex term when talking about the design of a city or a space that should be intended for multiple and multiple functions. An ideal city should be able to accommodate all aspects of life: living, leisure, business, work and retirement for a healthy life. It should be the right and perfect mix of all the things which should satisfy the people of every age group, religion, belief and culture also in the right ratio and not only this but the plan should be made in such a way that they can be used by of people for centuries. The longer it lasts, the more sustainable and successful it is.
