From the years 1850-1920, composers began to dwell less on the technical aspects of music and began to focus more on feelings. When composers like Johannes Brahms and Antonin Dvorak sought to express themselves in their music it was the time of the Romantic era. During this time period composers tried creatively to reproduce a thunderstorm or the sun rising. Frederik Chopin did an extraordinary job of melodying the natural events that can be seen every day. The Romantic period allowed composers to loosen the time differences between bar lines and express their hearts and thoughts through music. Ludwig van Beethoven's compositions are believed to have begun the Romantic era ("The Beethoven Era"). The music of the Romantic era was written for emotion and feeling. Cara Batema once said about the Romantic style: "Music became nationalistic due to composers using styles and forms of folk music from their native countries, and music became more personal." When composer Chopin wanted to show the sun through his music, the listener can feel the wonder of dawn, as well as feel the relief that the terror of the night is over. The Romantic Era is truly an era full of emotions. Johannes Brahms was a famous composer of the Romantic period who was encouraged by his father to pursue music instead of law. Born in 1833 and died in 1897, Johannes Brahms contributed to the world by helping the poor and weak and by composing. Brahms often had to work very hard to find a musical idea. He could not sit down and write a melody that quickly formed in his head like the talented Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
