The definition of a relationship has changed many times over the past few decades. It went from a connection between two people to an obsession and almost a competition. In today's world a relationship is made up of greater intimacy and closeness. Some believe that intimacy while dating is wrong. They form their own definition of relationship into what they call a “divine relationship.” Those who support this type of relationship condemn sexual closeness and control who their young people can date. There are two worlds of dating in our lives today; one with infatuation and the other with being together. A relationship can be defined in many different ways. People often form their own definitions and follow the rules they set. Some (e.g. Christians) consider it dangerous and follow a set of strict rules for exiting a book (such as the Bible). The general characteristics of a relationship usually include caring deeply about someone and showing how much you care about them in different ways. By looking at two different types we can see exactly how different they are. One type is the "worldly" relationship between people in the world at large and how they date while the other is a "divine" relationship of a specific group of people who follow punctilious dating rules. Social dating can be defined as a method of introducing and carrying out a premarital relationship between a single man and a single woman:…which begins with the man or woman who begins with the other…which is conducted outside the formal supervision or authority of each person's family or church… which may or may not have marriage as a goal and is often purely recreational or educational. (Croft) From that definition... in the center of the paper... you can tell whether or not their child is ready to date. Parents need to be able to trust that their children will make good, appropriate and wise decisions when dating (Bruinsma). The two types of dating are very different in many ways. The worldly way is fun, but can cause many consequences while the divine way has more restrictions, but can lead to a happier and more successful love life. So it is the reader who must decide for himself what is best. In any case, dating is serious business. Overall we need to make sure we have healthy relationships. Having a healthy relationship means maintaining good communication, resolving conflicts in an orderly and amicable way, but also overcoming the pain of past relationships (Robinson). Following a healthy relationship can lead to memories of happiness with the person you are in love with.
