Topic > Tina's Story - 1779

Major depressive disorder causes people to think irrationally because their mind is always sad or thinking about how they could do things differently. Depression is caused by something that happened or stress about something, and depression persists long after the event or stressor is gone. Suicide often happens to those who are depressed because people think it would be better not to live and they no longer want to suffer and experience the pain of being a disappointment by disappointing their loved ones. Suicide seems like the right answer at that moment but if they really thought about the effect they would probably think about it before doing it. It may seem like seeking help for depression won't help, but if they followed the doctor's instructions and gave themselves time to heal, it could help with all the problems. The Axis deals with most ailments and conditions. Axis I does not deal with mental retardation or personality disorders. Axis II deals with personality disorders and mental retardation unlike Axis I. Axis III deals with conditions that will help with the patient's medical history. This will help doctors understand the patient's past medical history. Axis IV deals with how psychosocial and environmental aspects influence the patient. The environment surrounding the patient can make the patient happy or sad when he does not understand why he cannot be somewhere else where he is happy. Axis V is an assessment of all of the above and also includes the person's work situation. This test is designed to see if a person poses a danger to other people and to themselves. It appears that Tina's doctor can use these axes to help diagnose her depression. The V Axis could determine how much or... half of the card... unfortunately because those affected could end up committing suicide. Seeking help could be of great benefit to those involved if treated correctly. Reference: Depression; Studies from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine update current data on depression.
